In India, 5th September is celebrated as Teachers’ Day as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society. 5th September is the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a staunch believer of education and a well-known diplomat, visionary, statesman, scholar, President of India and above all a perfect Teacher. In 1962, when Dr. Radhakrishnan became the President of India, he was approached with a request of celebrating his birthday. He said, "Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if this day is observed as Teachers’ Day”.
