About Institution's Innovation Council(IIC) :

In 2018, the Ministry of Education (MoE), through its Innovation Cell (MIC), launched the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) program in collaboration with AICTE to systematically promote a culture of innovation and a robust start-up ecosystem in higher educational institutions (HEIs). The IIC primarily focuses on engaging faculty, students, and staff in a variety of innovation and entrepreneurship activities, including creativity, problem-solving, proof-of- concept development, design thinking, intellectual property rights (IPR), and project management at the pre-incubation and incubation stages. These efforts aim to establish and sustain a thriving innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem within HEIs.

The major focus areas of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) include:

Creating a vibrant local innovation ecosystem within higher educational institutions (HEIs).
Establishing mechanisms to support start-ups and entrepreneurship.
Developing a functional ecosystem for scouting innovative ideas and facilitating their pre-incubation.
Enhancing the cognitive abilities of technology students to foster innovation and problem-solving skills.

The functions of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) are as follows:

Promote innovation across the institution through diverse initiatives, fostering a robust innovation ecosystem on campus.
Conduct innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities as prescribed by the Central MIC within specified timelines.
Identify and reward innovative ideas while sharing success stories to inspire others.
Organize workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions with entrepreneurs, investors, and professionals, while building a mentor network for student innovators.
Establish connections with peer institutions and national entrepreneurship development organizations to enhance collaboration.
Develop an Institution’s Innovation Portal to showcase innovative projects by faculty and students.
Host Hackathons, idea competitions, mini-challenges, and similar events with active industry participation.

Roles & Responsibilities of IIC Members :

Ensure that the Institution’s Innovation Council’s logo and the phrase “in association with Institution’s Innovation Council, Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India” are included in brochures for all academic activities related to industry interaction, start-ups, entrepreneurship, research, innovation, and intellectual property rights (IPRs).
Establish Innovation Clubs within their respective departments, equipped with facilities and resources to support innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) activities.
Promote an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset through activities such as workshops, awareness campaigns, market outreach events, orientation sessions, advocacy meetings, campus hackathons, and networking events at intra- and interinstitutional levels.
Encourage faculty and students to engage in research related to entrepreneurship.
Develop short-term certificate courses on innovation and entrepreneurship.
Advocate for the inclusion of major or minor specializations or credit courses in innovation, entrepreneurship (I&E), and IPR in departmental offerings.
Organize employment generation skill development programs of at least 30 contact hours.
Conduct entrepreneurial skill development and employment generation programs for external participants, including local residents, community members, and alumni.
Collaborate with the IPR Cell to generate revenue through patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and other intellectual property.
Seek grants from government, non-government, and CSR bodies to support and promote innovation initiatives.
